News from our Head of School - Kathy Miner
Our Unique Program
As visiting parents consider the educational options for their children as compared to other curriculum schools, they often ask us to explain the difference in our educational experience and environment here at GAA.
We all know that GAA is a special place for our students but it is important to understand (and celebrate) the key differences found in our unique program. I’m certainly proud to lead and serve this dynamic school community and look forward to continuing my leadership in the coming year and beyond- at least until 2020.
At GAA we provide each student with a holistic, inquiry based, engaging program of studies. We prepare each student to be an internationally minded citizen who takes action to contribute positively to their community and the world.
Today we know that the keys to adult success and happiness are qualities of character: resilience, integrity, caring, leadership, perseverance and grit. With this in mind, at the heart of the American curriculum/IB approach to education is a commitment to the development of the whole child- fostering growth in knowledge and intellect while also promoting creative, physical, emotional and social development.
Our rich and rigorous subject area disciplines and a wide range of extra-curricular experiences allow for young people to pursue individual interests and gain confidence to make their unique contributions to the community.
We foster an inclusive community that inspires and cultivates student engagement, conviction and high achievement and provide for innovative programming that broadly utilizes current and cutting edge digital technologies that accelerate learning.
Most unique to our American curriculum/IB approach is the commitment to provide support systems for every student whether their challenge is learning English for the first time or learning to swim.
In this highly personalized environment, we prepare and inspire each and every student for success throughout their unique educational journey.
Accreditation Visit
Please join me in welcoming the four-member Council of International School (CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) re- accreditation team for a visit on Sunday, April 30 through Tuesday, May 2.
As part of a 5 year re-accreditation cycle, our visitors are here to mark our progress as a school and support us in further school development along our “journey to excellence”.
CIS is our accrediting organization that ensures we are meeting high quality international school standards and NEASC serves as our accrediting organization for our American curriculum and diploma.
Reminder: School Hours During the Holy Month of Ramadan
ADEC will notify schools as to when the Holy Month of Ramadan will begin.
Bus service will continue as usual, with a 12:45 pm departure time from school. Teachers have engaging learning planned for their students. Learning will continue at GAA during the Holy Month of Ramadan, we encourage our families and students to continue attending during Ramadan.
Regards,
Kathy Miner

KG & Grade 1
Keita have launched a new Online System for ordering food. Please see the attached presentation detailing the food order process for KG1, KG2 and Grade 1 students. Hot meals are provided by Keita catering and delivered to the classroom. This is not mandatory and parents are welcome to send students with a packed lunch.
KG and Grade 1 students have lunch in their classroom and not in the cafeteria therefore the order process is different to that of students Grade 2-12, who purchase food in the cafeteria using the cashless system.
Kindly note the following:
- For students to be able to receive meals in their classroom, it is mandatory that parents register them on the online system, make the payment and select the order of the meals. This can only be done online.
- We suggest parents order a week in advance to avoid any disappointments and to ensure on time delivery to your child.Deadline for orders is 4pm the day prior.
- Any orders via email, telephone or at the cafeteria will unfortunately not be accepted.
-All current students registered and their credit balance will automatically be transferred to the new system.
If you have any questions on how to place the order or experience any difficulty with this system, please contact the Keita IT Department at [email protected] or at 056 939 4250. For general information, please contact their customer service at [email protected] or 800 – KEITA.
