News from our Secondary Principal, Craig Randall
Dear Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed the spring vacation and are all recharged and ready to support your children in working hard over this final stretch of the year.
As a new school, as stated previously, we are still going through “firsts.” As a reminder this is our first IB graduating class. As our students prepare for these all-important two year cumulative exams, they have been reviewing material in class this week and will continue reviewing material next week as well.
One of the “firsts” though, does involve our IB students. The week after next, IB students will not be required to attend school. A standard IB Diploma practice is to allow a study week. Teachers will be available to provide support at school or via email, but students will have the option of coming into school or studying at home or at a coffee shop or wherever else they might desire to study.
The following week, beginning Monday, May 2nd the IB exams begin. These exams will run through Friday May 20th. Another change to be aware of is that exams run on a western work week schedule and take place Monday thru Friday for those three weeks.
The following week we will have our grade 12 non-IB exams. Following that are the grade eight promotion ceremony, then final exams for grade nine thru eleven, and then graduation. Below is the schedule of dates to help guide planning.
Regards,
Craig Randall

IB Art students set the bar high
Last month saw our first IB Visual Arts cohort showcase their final exhibition with great success. Each student selected 8-13 artworks that they had created throughout the course to present as a coherent body of work and there was a lot of praise for the artists on a busy opening night.
Students talked to parents, friends and guests over the two hours to give insight into their work and their intentions for each piece. Live music from Cameron Hughes’s band and a number of interactive pieces for guests to get involved made for a fun night.
All students can be very proud of what they have achieved in just 18 months and although it was a lot of hard work, the exhibition comprises just 40% of their final grade.
Work will remain in the IB lounge for the time being to enable students across the school and parents to visit.

Grade 12 music students move towards greatness!
Following a frantic four months of composing, practicing, recording and flying to international auditions, I’m proud to announce that our G12 musicians are beginning to receive offers from their chosen conservatories (conservatoires).
Pranav Datla and Cameron Hughes have been accepted to further their music education at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music and British and Irish Modern Music Institute respectively. These are exceptional achievements and a testament to the talent and self motivation of both students. Over the coming months they will both continue to receive offers from equally prestigious institutions in the US, UK and mainland Europe before making their final decision in where to study.
It is a huge honor to be accepted into a musical institution of this kind and places are limited to a handful of students each year.
Both Pranav and Cameron will be performing with the High School Jazz Band at the Secondary School Instrumental Concert on Monday, 25th April at GAA.

Dear parents and guardians,
The Prom Committee would like to formally notify you of an upcoming event that has been planned and organized since the beginning of the school year.
Prom is a high school tradition that celebrates not only the success and completion of high school education, but also the transition into the next part of our lives. Thus, the students of GAA are highly enthusiastic and excited about such an event, and we are thrilled to announce that Prom will take place later this year. We are working hard to ensure a memorable experience, and we hope every student invited can participate and enjoy this celebratory occasion.
This year’s Prom will be held at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi on the 26th of May, 2016. Please be aware that this event will be supervised by chaperone teachers to ensure safety and responsibility.
This event is made possible through the purchase of tickets at the cost of 400 AED, and fundraisers held throughout the year. We welcome and appreciate any further donations by parents. We would also like to acknowledge the help from GAAPA and Booster Club, and thank them for their unconditional support.
Should you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact our Prom Committee Advisors via email:
Ms. Alexandra Fatu: [email protected]
Ms. Kamila Shakarchi: [email protected]
Warm regards,
Prom Committee
