UAE National Day Special Issue
Dear Parents,
Here is a very special issue of The GAAzette, with some of the pictures from yesterday and today's National Day festivities. I am sure you will enjoy looking through them over the coming days.
We celebrated UAE National Day in two ways. Yesterday we enjoyed a daylong National Day celebration with assemblies, flag pageants, a heritage fair and lots of traditional food! Thank you to all for making our National Day an incredible community event. I heard many, many positive comments throughout the day from parents, students, teachers and staff members- all proud and excited about the sense of community and celebration.
It was amazing to see how many parents attended the assemblies and enjoyed the outdoor activities. How wonderful that our local families have an important place in our school and can share their customs and traditions the other 83 nationalities we host at GAA. A number of parents helped and supported our Arabic teachers to organize the event and we are grateful.
From the stuffed camels to the flowing chocolate fountain- the day was perfect!
Today students and staff from GAA also collaborated with all GEMS Schools here in the UAE to sing the UAE National Anthem simultaneously. We sent a group of students to GEMS Wellington Academy – Dubai Silicon Oasis to take part in this special event. At 11am today a combined group of students representing 119 different nationalities sang the National Anthem of the UAE and consequently set a new Guinness World Record.
We streamed the event here at school so all students could be a part of this special event. Through this celebration we deliver a message to our region and the world, that diversity and tolerance is the evidence of a nation’s vitality and proof of its ability to achieve wonders. This was the vision of the Father of the Nation, His Highness Sheikh Zayed and these values and principles are alive and well in the UAE today among those who live here.
Thank you all for making these celebrations special and memorable time in the life of GAA! Enjoy looking through the pictures over the break.
All the best,
Kathy Miner
