News from our PYP Coordinator, Mike Hopaluk
On Thursday morning, Grade 3 students shared some of the Fractured Fairy tales they have written and then they explained how the use of simple machines has changed over time. In Grade 4, the students shared what they have been up to in the current PYP Exhibition unit. They explained how Earth’s conditions in space make life sustainable and how we could possibly “re-engineer” Mars to make it livable for us in the future. They had some incrediblly innovative ideas.
The Community Share was completed with the celebration of the students who received a Star Student award this week for their demonstration of PYP attitudes and/or IB Learner Profile attributes.

News from our KG Vice Principal, Sally Potts
Dear Parents
A gentle reminder of our policy regarding the celebration of birthdays in KG. Please take a moment to view the policy below, which is also found in our Elementary Community Handbook.
Birthdays
Birthdays can be celebrated in Kindergarten only from 2.30pm onwards. Birthday celebrations in Grade levels above Kindergarten are limited to a sharing of a healthy snack during the class’s allocated snack time as these celebrations take away too much time from our teaching and learning. All snacks sent into to school must be preapproved by the class teacher and/or Vice-Principal. Reception must be informed of a delivery at least 24 hours in advance and a teacher must collect any deliveries from the Reception. Deliveries will be sent back if not approved.
Class celebrations are arranged with the classroom teacher at least 72 hours in advance. This will ensure that there are not multiple celebrations on one day.
In connection with our ‘healthy food’ initiative, parents are encouraged to make appropriate choices when planning the celebration for their child. For birthdays we prefer snacks to be individually wrapped or in individual portions, such as fruit and vegetables. No Cakes. For drinks water is preferred. Please be aware that no soft drinks are allowed.
Cups, plates or napkins: Please arrange, as the school does not provide these items.
Please do not send hats, balloons, party favors or gift bags, as these items will not be distributed at school.
Invitations to “out of school” birthday parties can only be sent via school if all students in the class are invited. If you plan to invite only a few classmates, please be aware that this can cause uncomfortable or awkward situations, and/or hurt feelings.
REMINDER: As the weather gets warmer, please remember to send your child with a hat and water bottle. We carefully monitor the temperature to ensure that our students get a healthy balance of exercise while making sure that they are safe.
Our KG promotion will be happening on May 22nd, 23rd and 24th. We split the nine classes into three different days so that we can celebrate with our families. We are looking forward to a wonderful celebration of learning!
Regards,
Sally Potts

Asalamu Alaykum Warahmatu Allahi Wa Barakatuhu"
We’ve a had a fun and busy week with our lovely students and we really enjoyed our time.
Our KG1 students now know the manners of sleeping in Islam and they were able to conclude the importance of remembering Allah in the life of a Muslim from the general meaning of the Duaa’ of going to sleep and waking up.
Our KG2 students now know the general meaning of the Hadith ‘’ Islam was built on 5 pillars…’’ and they are now also able to number the five Pillars of Islam and understand the meaning of each one.
Thank you.
Regards,
Mrs. Jadees
