News from our Elementary Principal, Ben Voborsky
Hello GAA Community,
The 2015-2016 school year is definitely in its home stretch! Not only is the weather heating up- please remember to send your child with a hat and a water bottle- but promotion ceremony season is in full swing. All of our GAA KG2 students and their families enjoyed their promotion ceremonies and after ceremony celebrations over a three day period this week. The promotion ceremonies celebrated a year of learning and growth. The opening slide shows shared the experiences of our KG2 Inquirers and gave community members a brief chance to reflect on what independent learners our students become. Our KG2 students enthusaistically sang, “we want to be a part of it… first grade… first grade!!!”. I know they will be a fantastic cohort. A big thank you to the community members who made these ceremonies special.
Looking forward to first grade and the 2016-2017 school year. The biggest adjustment for Grades 1-5 will the movement to a five day schedule. This will align the whole school, KG1-G12, on a five day timetable. You can now always pack the swim bag on the same day of the week! We will also be adding an additional member to our PE staff and our Grade 1 students will have four PE classes a week. The implication for our Grade 1 parents is that our students will be in their PE uniforms 80% of the time so when purchasing uniforms for 2016-2017 school year please remember this.
Ramadan kareem 2016. We are expecting the GAA Ramadan timing (7:45am-12PM) to begin on Monday, June 6th or Tuesday, June 7th. The G1-5 Ramadan Schedule is available via the following link. If Ramadan begins on June 7th the schedule will be updated. Ramadan mubarak 2016.
I would like to highlight GAA’s addition online learning platforms. Not only your child’s classroom online resources available but, incase you were not aware, the GAA Library resource page has KG and Elementary specific sections. Please have a look.
Enjoy your weekend,

News from our KG Vice Principal, Sally Potts
Congratulations to our KG2s!
For three days this week, our halls were alive with the sounds of families celebrating their children getting ready for Grade 1.
We held ceremonies in the auditorium where our students sang a song and received their promotion certificates surrounded by families and friends. Our families were then able to decorate cupcakes baked by our KG students, have their photos taken at photo booths or enjoy many of the delicious foods provided by our parents.
The KG staff would like to thank everyone for their kind comments about the ceremonies. We would also like to thank Terri, Ruanda, Nicole and Maha who have been helping to plan the ceremonies for months. It has been a wonderful team effort! Seeing our students grow physically and academically and socially over the last year has been such a privilege.
Thank you all for your contributions.
Regards,
Sally Potts
