News from our Elementary Principal, Ben Voborsky
Hello GAA Community,
What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had here at GAA with an engaging Sports Day in the books and the Elementary Arts Festival in full swing. I have heard such positive feedback from these events and what valuable student experiences our staff facilitated. Our GAA students continue to be happy and engaged on multiple platforms. This truly emphasises the importance we place on a holistic approach to your child's education. All aspects of our students development are interconnected as we grow the whole learner. Each student has a chance to succeed and express themselves.
I have been keeping up to speed remotely as I have been in the USA identifying engaging and dynamic teachers to work with your children in the 2016-2017 school year. At the recruitment fairs teachers are always amazed about our GAA community. Some of the feedback points I have received as to why teachers choose to join our community:
The list goes on and on. Our school presentations are always popular and prospective teaching colleagues love our "get to know you" video.
Next week is Parent Engagement Week. Please support this week and get a couple of the sessions on your calendar. There are many sessions that you may find interesting.
Have a great weekend and my family looks forward to seeing yours at the International Food Festival tomorrow!
Regards,
Ben Voborsky

- Truly international with 94 nationalities, speaking 40 languages
- Local and international recognition and benefits from ADEC, NEASC, CIS, and IB authorisation/accrediations
- Access to professional learning and development
- A technology and resource rich environment and purpose built facility
- A supportive community of parents and parent organisations - GAAPA and the Booster Club

Grade 4
Sharing the Planet
The grade 4 hall way has been extremely busy for the past few weeks featuring many big events such as the 4th Grade Poetry Slam, and the Arts Festival. These events were all highly successful and enjoyable for students, parents and teachers alike. The Poetry Slam took place on Wednesday, February 11th and it was a very effective culmination of the hard work the students had done in the previous unit: How We Express Ourselves.
Following up on the tremendous success of our How We Express Ourselves unit, grade 4 classes have been delving into our new Unit of Inquiry: Sharing the Planet. In this unit, our teaching is focused on the Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry as seen below:
To begin our Unit of Inquiry we launched an exploration of the world we live in and searched out inequalities around us. As a vital part of the unit, it is essential for the students to understand that inequalities exist all around us, and only by becoming aware of them and understanding them do we start to consider ways to take action against them. The key concepts for our unit, Perspective, Causation, and Change, encourage students to explore inequalities, find the root of their causes and seek opportunities to act on them. These inequalities can be as simple as issues within the schoolyard or as complex as global economics. A fundamental portion of our study so far in 4D has been to seek out perspective within inequalities, and to attempt to better understand the humanity involved. We have done this through a series of gallery walks, class discussions and studies through texts such as If the World Were a Village by David J. Smith. It is a truly wonderful experience to see students come to better understand their world. The topics discussed in this unit of study can exhibit a great deal of depth, but it promises to be one filled with student discovery.

KGCORNER
KG2I had a super fun day at our Sports Day last week. We had two teams: Ireland and New Zealand. We visited all of the areas. Our favorite were the gymnastics, tail tag, the parachute and basketball.
Thank you to ms. Claire and Ms. Vicky for organising such an awesome day!! :)

KG Music
The KG 1's were risk-takers as they performed for the arts festival! They have been learning about their five senses. For their performance, they took us on a journey though the senses of the animals, from the keen sense of smell of the dog to the impeccable hearing of the bat. Currently in music they are learning note values. Show your KG1’s the magic feet picture and have them tell you about note values!
KG2
The KG2’s had an outstanding performance at the arts festival! They took us on a musical journey through the world, stopping at many countries to share dances, songs and events that are celebrated!
Currently our KG2 students are learning about Camille Saint-Saens’s “carnival of the animals” which includes living and nonliving sections in the musical composition, animals and fossils. Through inquiry, the students will learn why he uses specific instruments in a certain style to show how the different animals move. We are also focusing on music appreciation and the composer himself.

Peace been upon you and a mercy of Allah and His blessing
At KG1 we have spent a good time with our lovely kids, we have learnt "Surat Al-KAWTHAR", and we realized its meaning.
Students recognize the grace Allah provides and recognize how to be thankful. They understand the meaning of friendship and its principles which help them to choose their friends. Students start applying the principles of having meals.
At KG2 our kids are able to recite Surat Al-Kawthar, and they know its meaning. They recognize the importance of being beyond parental control. They can mention the grace that Allah gives us. They recognize Muslims Duties forward the public utilities and it must be maintained
