Learning continues at GAA during the Holy Month of Ramadan with interesting and engaging projects and activities. The last day of instruction will be Thursday, June 23.
As we wrap up the year, I’d like to recognize the support of our parents who help make GAA at truly amazing community. We appreciate the partnership and support we have received from our parent community. We are a strong school with a vibrant community and we are excited as we look ahead to the future of our school and see continued growth and improvements. Thank you for a great year!
Our last newsletter this week includes information about new faculty members arriving to GAA in August 2016. We have some very strong teachers who will add to our already strong faculty. We all know that exceptional teachers are the key to any successful school.

- Maintain high quality communication from and within the school office. Liaise with tact and diplomacy with school staff, parents and representative of the GEMS Corporate Office.
- Generate and process daily office e-mails, telephone calls and faxes
- Perform a wide variety of general secretarial duties including the maintenance of accurate and detailed records, databases, and filing systems.
- Maintain Supervisor/Principal’s appointment calendar as well as all his/her professional communication and public relations needs.
- Compile information from various sources to generate reports; prepares, collate and distribute weekly, monthly and annual reports as required.
- Assist in training and monitoring the work of temporary secretaries, student assistants and other clerical staff.
- Review and update all documentations, calendars and all school related activities. Organize and coordinate office management activities and oversees school events. Communicates information to faculty, staff, parents, and students.
- Maintain office supply records. Order, store and issue supplies and materials pertinent to the function to which assigned.

- Teaching of Aquatics certification (ARC, AUSTSWIM, ASA/UKCC, etc.)
- Skill in the application of life-guarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Experience working in a pool environment.
- Experience teaching swim lessons.
- Commitment to team-working, and respect and consideration for the skills of others.
- Previous work as a lifeguard or swim instructor.
REPORTS TO: Aquatics Director
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Arrive in prior to lesson start time and ensure facilities are set up appropriately
- Ensure safe provision of all equipment and ensure proper use within Health & Safety guidelines and undertake risk assessments
- Welcome all participants/swimmers in a professional and friendly manner
- Ensure the lesson programs are safe and appropriate to the needs/abilities of the participants involved and provide supervision and assistance to all participants
- Assess, record and report on students' progress in swimming as requested by the Aquatics Director.
- Supervise other aquatic staff including lifeguards, teachers and volunteers
- Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans for swim squads; after school and pre-school training.
- For the duration of the lesson, instruct, provide feedback and encouragement to swimmers
- Arrange cover for any planned absence and inform the cover supervisor of the changes in good time
- Plan and organize school swimming programmes
- To attend Lifeguard training sessions/Swimming level courses when offered to ensure ongoing personal development and compliance of certification requirements.
- To comply with the Emergency Action Plan/NOP for the facilities and assist with any such incidents in the appropriate manner.
- To assist in swimming instruction of school lessons.
- Maintain (notify Aquatics Director of expiration dates) currency of qualifications and update and renew qualifications at appropriate times.
- To work collaboratively with all staff at GEMS American Academy.

- It is incumbent for the staff to be trained and qualified by passing NPQL
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Keep a close watch and an appropriate level of control over the pool and surrounds including users and spectators.
- Communicate effectively with pool users, colleagues and spectators
- Anticipate problems and prevent accidents though daily use of risk assessments and on going assessments;
- Intervene to prevent behavior which is unsafe;
- Identify emergencies quickly and take appropriate action;
- Carry out a rescue from the water when required;
- Give immediate first aid to any casualty (including Resuscitation, Spinal Injury Management)
- Be able to supervise pool user’s adherence to safety rules and safety standards.
- Basic pool cleaning and testing.
- Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Assist the teacher with reading related activities.
- Run small group activities inside or outside the classroom as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare and tidy up classroom activities. Mount work displays and assist with preparation of displays.
- Photocopy documents and assist with preparation of worksheets etc as requested.
- Responsible for covering class for short periods of time in emergency situations.
- Tidy and rearrange stock cupboards and distribute new stock.
- Take children to toilet and change/clean them when necessary.
- Develop familiarity with relevant aspects of the curriculum eg literacy, numeracy and Phonetics.
