News from our Secondary Principal Craig Randall
Dear Parents,
Last night was a very big night for our seniors. Our parents sponsored and put on a Prom. For those unfamiliar with a prom, the American Prom is the traditional high school dinner and dance that is held close to the end of the academic school year. Generally, it is a well-mannered party where the upper classmen celebrate moving forward as young ladies and gentlemen. School days will be over soon and the more serious days of university and adult life are just beginning.
Typically, the high school prom is open to the junior and senior class of the school. Girls and boys do attend the prom together at the same location; however it is a supervised and chaperoned event. The dress is evening dress for ladies, and coat and tie or tuxedos for gentlemen.
The American Prom is often defined by a theme for the evening. This year’s prom had the theme of “James Bond”. This very simply means that the decorations for the evening reflect the images and decorations associated with the James Bond movie series. Images of James Bond movies adorned the tables and walls of the facility.
The event took place at The Rush Room of the Viceroy Hotel. The students looked fantastic dressed so exquisitely. It took me a while to recognize some of them because I’m not used to seeing them look so dressed up. It is safe to report that fun times were had by all the kids. They dined on yummy food and socialized into the night. The event was chaperoned and everyone was definitely on their best behavior.
I’d like to send a special thank you to Sheila Slezak who was the chief organizer for the event. Thank you to all the parents who also helped in preparations and support. Lastly, thank you to Catherine Sciolis and Joanna Ruderman, our secondary teachers who also took on a large role in helping to support the parents in the organization of the prom.
A reminder to all 8th grade parents that our promotion ceremony is next Thursday the 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium.
Finally, once again, here is a copy of the senior exam schedule:
