News From the Elementary Principal Ben Voborsky
Hello GAA Community,
I am sure everyone had a fantastic spring break. GAA community members seemed to be well rested and relaxed this week. It was great to listen to stories from our community members and especially hear about our students spring break adventures from their perspectives. Our students were excited to share, see their friends, and jump back into the classroom routines. We engaged in an Elementary wide writing exercise about spring break which teachers will use to moderate our writing assessment utilising the Bonnie Campbell Hill Developmental Writing Continuums.
Not only did I get to hear some fantastic stories about places to visit from student returning from spring break but from Grade 1 students who hosted a travel fair. If you were lucky enough to join this event, our students really displayed their learning and were able to communicate persuasively about the countries they represented. I am looking forward to all of our students sharing their learning at Student Led Conferences on April 22nd and 23rd.
Conference scheduling has gone live. If you have not scheduled your conference please visit http://tiny.cc/thelauncher. I am sure you will be proud about how knowledgeable your child is! Some possible questions that would assist your child in demonstrating this would be:
What was your favourite part about…..?
What was the main idea that you learned from…..?
What was the most difficult part about…..?
How did you improve on…..?
How did you decide to…..?
With spring break behind us, the one thing that we can expect is that the weather will be heating up. Please remember GAA’s no hat, no play policy. It is imperative that you send your child to school with a water bottle and a hat. Make sure to double check! You can refer to the GAA Nurse’s Heat Policy found in the Elementary Community Handbook on http://tiny.cc/thelauncher..
Excitement is brewing for summer vacation and we are already looking forward to next year. We have really filled out as a school for 2015-2016 with KG1-Grade 2 at capacity.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend,
Ben Voborsky

KG1- I
This week KG1 I has had a great time discovering new activities to take part in in the classroom. Measuring and using tape measures around the classroom, working in a sand garden, trying their hands at chess and making lots of different patterns with cubes.

KG2B have been busy investigating different types of materials and experimenting with what they can do and how they can be changed.
Using different strategies during Readers Workshop.
