News from Head of School - Kathy Miner
Dear GAA Parents,
KG2, Grade 5 & Grade 8 Promotion Ceremonies
High School Graduation is an exciting moment in the life of a senior student. However, it is also important to recognize and celebrate other critical transitions that mark a child’s progress along the K-12 journey. For this reason, we recognize and celebrate our students’ promotion to the next stage of their educational journey, from KG2 to Grade 1, entering the Elementary School; from Grade 5 to Grade 6, entering the Secondary School; and from Grade 8 to Grade 9, the beginning of high school.
Please see below dates for upcoming Promotion events:
We have much to celebrate as a community in recognizing the accomplishments of our students while also honoring our parents, who have supported our students every step of the way.
GAAPA & Booster Club
Parents looking for a fantastic way to get involved in the school community, be sure to consider becoming a member of our GAA Parent Association (GAAPA) or GAA Booster Club! The entire school community benefits when our parents are here, involved and engaged with the life of the school. For information on how to get involved please contact our Parent Relations Executive at [email protected]
The Holy Month of Ramadan
In last weeks Newsletter I explained the school routines during the Holy Month of Ramadan as well as provided important information to assist families new to the area with cultural expectations and information. Teachers and staff members have received training and information to assist them in supporting and modeling appropriate routines during this Holy month. Please see the timings below:
*ADEC will notify schools as to when the Holy Month of Ramadan will begin. Half-days will begin on either Sunday, June 5th or Monday, June 6th.

Dear GAA Community,
If you need further reminder that you are part of a special community of parents, students, and staff, look no further than the most recent award given to our school.
Last Friday, April 22nd, the UAE Teen and Sports Awards took place in Dubai. In partnership with the UAE Olympic Committee and the Abu Dhabi and Dubai Sports Councils, the awards committee recognized organizations, teams, schools, and individuals for their achievements in the field of health, fitness, and sport. The awards varied, with categories such as Best Sports Team, Best Sports Facility, Outstanding Male and Female Athlete, and many more.
Read more about the awards and the winners here: http://www.teenawards.ae/winners.html#
In late February, the PE department submitted an application to the committee highlighting all of the positive initiatives here at GAA, in addition to the strong curriculum and varied activities provided during and after school. We described our PE program, the wellness activities provided, and the engaged parent community, all of which demonstrated to the judges our focus on health and fitness.
Here in the UAE, 2 out of every 3 people are overweight or obese. The numbers of overweight and obese children are as high as 1 in 3. Furthermore, according to the World Health Organization, upwards of 1 million people in the UAE have Diabetes. It will take communities such as ours to band together to reverse these trends and set out on the path to a healthier tomorrow. We are very proud to be a part of a group of people committed to health and wellness, and we look forward to even greater achievements in the years to come.
Congratulations GAA on this achievement! Thank you for being part of a community committed to leading the way toward a healthier future.
Sincerely,
Dylan McShain
