News from our Secondary Principal, Craig Randall
Dear Parents,
Thank you to so many of you who came to our parent-student-teacher conferences this week. The attendance has once again been outstanding. On Wednesday we had over 265 families attend and on Thursday so far we have had 150 families attend. I have overheard many positive and constructive conversations during the course of the conferences.
The conferences are also a reminder that spring break is right around the corner. Following on the heels of the conferences, spring break can be an excellent time to catch up or refocus efforts for students who might require a little extra time to get back on track. Be sure and ask teachers what your child might be able to study over the break if you think this might apply to your child.
For our grade 12 seniors, this is an especially important time with IB exams fast approaching; they begin the first week of May. Spring break for them can be a valuable study time in preparation for these intense in-depth final exams. We encourage all of our seniors to use this time productively. It can make a difference in final scores, final grades, and, depending on the university system a student attends, it can make a difference in university acceptances and university credits earned for high IB scores.
Thanks for helping to keep your children focused on their academics this last week leading up to the holiday, because sometimes minds can wander on weeks like this.
Regards,
Craig Randall

The night will also include light food, drink and student musical performance.

Math Competition
Students from middle school took part in the Gems Mathematics Competition at Gems Wellington Silicon Oasis, Dubai on Sunday March 13, 2016. It was an exciting event for our young mathematicians. The competition involved a lot of collaboration, team building, as well as individual efforts. The students were effective communicators, they demonstrated excellent knowledge. The questions were based on a mixture of topics such as algebra, geometry, data and number questions that were given in a problem-solving style question. These questions were aimed towards middle school Gifted and Talented students. There were 24 teams and our school came in 2nd and 3rd place in the competition right behind Gems Wellington, Al Khail, Dubai. We are very proud of our young mathematicians and their efforts!!! Congratulations Team.

Dear parents and guardians,
The Prom Committee would like to formally notify you of an upcoming event that has been planned and organized since the beginning of the school year.
Prom is a high school tradition that celebrates not only the success and completion of high school education, but also the transition into the next part of our lives. Thus, the students of GAA are highly enthusiastic and excited about such an event, and we are thrilled to announce that Prom will take place later this year. We are working hard to ensure a memorable experience, and we hope every student invited can participate and enjoy this celebratory occasion.
This year’s Prom will be held at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi on the 26th of May, 2016. Please be aware that this event will be supervised by chaperone teachers to ensure safety and responsibility.
This event is made possible through the purchase of tickets at the cost of 400 AED, and fundraisers held throughout the year. We welcome and appreciate any further donations by parents. We would also like to acknowledge the help from GAAPA and Booster Club, and thank them for their unconditional support.
Should you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact our Prom Committee Advisors via email:
Ms. Alexandra Fatu: [email protected]
Ms. Kamila Shakarchi: [email protected]
Warm regards,
Prom Committee
