News from our Elementary Principal, Ben Voborsky
Dear GAA Community
Thank you to GAAPA, our wonderful Parent Association, for their organisation of the GAA Faculty Appreciation Week. On behalf of our faculty I want to say we value your contributions to GAA and your continuous support for our community.
There were many other demonstrations of action this week with our Grade 5 PYP Exhibition Students taking lead. From raising awareness about road safety issues to highlighting the importance of girls education, our students were out helping to create a better and more peaceful world. The Street Store was one of the successful projects undertaken. Please join us on the 11th and 12th at the Grade 5 Exhibition. I look forward to seeing you all there!
Enjoy the long weekend,
Ben Voborsky

Dear Parents,
Hats on the playground
This is a gentle reminder that all students must have a hat and a water bottle at school. This is especially important as the temperature starts to rise. The school has a policy of no hat no play for outside recess, which will be diligently monitored. Please help us to keep our students sun safe.

Grade 4
In class 4F, we learned about the Solar System and how it works. We also learned that the Earths conditions and position in space makes life sustainable. This is what we did to help understand the central idea: we did planet posters about planets that are in our solar system we had to include why or why not our planet could sustain life.
When we started our unit we did Think/Puzzle/Explore. In the middle of our unit (which is now) we proved if it was correct or incorrect, to do that we made documentaries about it, or google slides, or posters. We also learned that the size of the earth is just right to hold on to gravity which makes life sustainable.
Yaser Jamal and Ali G. Alhosani – 4F
Here’s what other 4F students had to say:
“I really enjoyed the Think/Puzzle/Explore learning engagement because I became more knowledgeable about our solar system. It helped me because we researched how Earth is different from other planets. Earth is different from the other planets because it is the only planet that has life, the right heat, magnetic field, 1 moon, an atmosphere, liquid water and oxygen.” Aurora
“I most enjoyed doing the planet posters because I learnt a lot about Mars and different planets. I understand the central idea better because I learnt Mars is not sustainable for life and how Earth is. Mars has a thin atmosphere.” Marieke
“I really enjoyed our visits to the Planetarium because it looked really cool and we learned a lot about the planets’ positions in space.” Omar
“I enjoyed doing the planet posters. I learned Venus is not sustainable for life, it will never be and Earth is. I enjoyed it because I liked working with my group and writing the information.” Aisha
“I enjoyed making my own time measuring tool because it showed me how to measure time in old times. It helped me understand the central idea because people used the sun to measure time and other things.” Hassan

Space Pirates
Last week finally saw the performances of the long awaited Elementary musical “Space Pirates”. The cast did a remarkable job and really saved their best performances for being in front of an audience! The cast and crew received lots of positive comments and our packed houses on both evening performances responded amazingly to the hard work that these students put into their show. We are proud of each and every one of the students involved in the performance and are thrilled of how supportive the GAA community has been to the Elementary show these past two years. Everyone is really looking forward to the many shows to come! Enjoy some photos taken from the performances provided by Marjie Bohning and Lacey Sexson.

News from our KG Vice Principal, Sally Potts
Dear Parents,
Our KG students are starting their final unit of inquiry as we work towards the end of the year. It has been a genuine pleasure to watch our students grow and develop this year. I have had many comments from our parents about how confident their children have become—both socially and academically. We have an amazing team of staff and parents!
Recess, Hats and Water Bottles
As you know, our school monitors the temperature closely so that our students are not outside when it is too hot. We really encourage students to be outside working on gross motor skills and enjoying our playground. Please remember to send in hats and water bottles. I have noticed that some of our students are forgetting to bring them to school.
Kindergarten Promotion
Our KG2 students are looking forward to their Kindergarten Promotion on May 23, 24 and 25th. This year, we will be hosting three sets of promotions in our auditorium. We have a wonderful group of parents and staff who have been planning for this since November. We are looking forward to celebrating the wonderful learning our children have done this year. Parents will be asked to contribute towards food for the event. Please watch for a sign-up sheet.
Regards,
Sally Potts

What a busy few weeks we’ve had since coming back from Spring Break! Everyone has settled back into school routine. We are enjoying our new Unit of inquiry ‘How the World Works,’ with our central idea focusing on light and sound is all around us and behaves in different ways. The children have been busy engaging in a variety of experiments and making their own discoveries. Take a look at some of our photos from the past couple of weeks….
“KG1 E started a new Unit of Inquiry recently “ How the World Works “.
We are learning that light and sound are all around us. Light, shadows and sound travel and change in a variety of ways. Our class also visited visited the Planetarium to expand our learning. Terrific effort boys and girls, well done!

The students of KG2C brainstormed the types of jobs in an airport. They came up with 25 roles and this ensured that each student in the class had a specific job. Whether it was a passenger, security officer or passport control, the students thoroughly enjoyed engaging in this activity.
Arabic Week
Arabic week was an opportunity for our children to show what they had learned during the school year. They listened to a story which was read by some of the volunteer parents. Students were knowledgeable in being able to read, write and talk using simple Arabic. They enjoyed exploring and talking about state of matter. They had some competitive activities which made the Arabic fun and exciting.
