News from our Secondary Principal, Katherine Banner
Dear Parents
This has been a busy week at GAA. Students have participated wholeheartedly in the kickoff of our Campaign of Kindness/Bullying Prevention Week and our hearts have soared by the kindness we see in our kids. One great example of kindness we have witnessed was a grade 7 student who developed a “Welcome to Grade 7 Lunch” which was designed to welcome new grade 7s to GAA. It included a powerpoint presentation on stepping up to be inclusive and spread kindness in our world. Many thanks to GAAPA for their support in planning the Campaign of Kindness and in providing movie tickets or our video competition prizes. We are blessed to have such amazingly kind students and supportive families and teachers who promote and model our culture of kindness daily.
Next week students will take the CAT4 Assessment. This is a piloted assessment designed to measure verbal, non-verbal and spatial reasoning. Because this is a pilot assessment we will be learning how best to use the data. We will first work with our teachers using just school-wide data to help better differentiate instruction to address varying learning styles. Also, because this is a pilot, individual data will not be distributed to parents. The timed assessment is in a series of 3 parts with each part lasting about 40 minutes. If you have further questions please feel free to contact our Curriculum Coordinator, Jen Parker.
As an international school we value international mindedness and what better way to immerse in other cultures than travel to a new and different destination. On October 17th at 7:00 pm in the auditorium, GAA is excited to share information about our Spring Break Trips. Mr. Russell will have a parent meeting for anyone interested in learning about the trips that will be offered this year. His presentation will include a short slide show on each trip as well as information about costs and timelines. In addition, the chaperones of each trip will be present to answer any question you may have. We hope to see many of you for an evening of travel!
Regards,
Katherine Banner
