News from our Elementary Principal, Ben Voborsky
Hello GAA Community
Our GAA classrooms have been full STEAM ahead with engaging learning activities. Many of you may have heard of STEM education which "refers to the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics". At GAA, we are taking that a step further in our PYP program. "STEAM education incorporates the “A” for the arts – recognizing that to be successful in technical fields, individuals must also be creative and use critical thinking skills which are best developed through exposure to the arts”. There have been many exciting initiatives and partnerships with local organisation being cultivated as we prepare for a full STEAM launch in 2016-2017.
I hope everyone had the opportunity enjoy SPACE PIRATES. A big shout out to the cast, crew, and those who contributed many hours to help our students shine! A special thank you to Mr. Erik Smith, Ms. Diana Diclaudio, Mr. Peter Presnail, Ms. Caitlin Smith, Ms. Rhyan Davis and Ms. Jen Parker.
Remember next week is a short week with no school on May 5th.
Enjoy your weekend,
Ben Voborsky

People watching have to be 11 and older due to safety reasons. There is also going to be a special guest presenting for a few minute before the movie. We hope you consider coming to this movie.

Dance and Drama
In Dance and Drama Kg1 have been making shadows and learning how to use shadow puppets. This has encouraged them to further explore the concept of light/dark which is part of the PYP unit ‘How the World Works.’
Kg2 have been learning how to move in contrasting ways and making dances with a partner to perform for the class. We used the topic of Spaghetti before and after it is cooked to illustrate how a material can be changed, further exploring the PYP unit of ‘How the World Works.’ We also made ‘spaghetti monsters’ by learning to curl pipe cleaners around a pencil!
Arabic
In KG Arabic, we have been very busy continuing to learn Arabic letters, numbers, shapes and much more. The students writing has improved lots along with their reading of long and short vowel letters. The students had fun taking turns to talk in Arabic about different topics in our center time.

Peace been upon you and a mercy of Allah and his blessing.
We have spent a good time with our lovely kids.
In KG1 the children have learnt Surat AlFatiha, and understand its meaning. They have also learnt the Islamic manners of clothing, and the importance of saying the grace of wearing a new dress as applying to the Sunnah of our prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
In KG2 our kids are now able to read Surat AlNaser, and they recognize its overall meaning. They have learnt the Islamic manners of entering and exiting the house. They understand the importance to say this grace when they enter or exit as followers of our prophet's Sunnah.
