Update on Scaffolding in Front of the School
We are delighted to report that the cladding tile replacement project is completed on one side of our school and the scaffolding will soon be removed from above the main entrance.
The goal of the company is to have all of the repairs completed prior to our return to school in January.
The KG entrance is the next phase to be restored. The KG entrance will be closed as of December 1st so that the company can finish the reconstruction.
The KG "Kiss and Ride" at the front of the school will be moved to the main entrance until the repairs are complete. We have arranged for extra staff to help us get our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students down to their area. Some of our Grade 5 students will be helping by creating “Walking school Buses” that will take groups of KG / Grade 1 students to their hallways.
As always, we appreciate our parents who have helped us make the KG “Kiss and Ride” such a positive start to the day. Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions.
We ask that G1-G12 families continue to use the back area for pick-up and drop-off, giving our KG families the needed space in the front of the school.
Martyr's Day
The observance of Martyr’s Day has been moved from Wednesday, November 30 to Thursday, December 1, 2016. National Days will be celebrated on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3.
There will be no school on Thursday, December 1, creating a three-day weekend.
Wednesday, November 30 is a school day.

Kathryn Miner

Dear Parents,
We salute our beloved country as we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the union that marked the beginning of a blessed march toward progress and development.
On this day, we remember the founders of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, his companion the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and their brothers the rulers, who all met on 2nd December 1971, armed with their deep belief in their country and with deep interest in the people, eventually led the birth of the United Arab Emirates and the onset of the country’s renaissance.
To commemorate this special occasion students, faculty and staff of GAA will celebrate National Day on the 29thNovember, 2016.
Students will perform in the auditorium, and enjoy the field activities.
Field activities are:
Heritage village
1-Henna
2-Face painter
3-Puppet show
4- Carnival Games
5-Falcon man
6-Ayalla (traditional dance)
7- Arabic Coffee server
8-Traditional History
9-Air dancers
10- Mascot character (traditional character)
We would like all students, parents and teachers to wear either the UAE traditional dress or the colors of the UAE Flag
Regards,
Samah Awad

Dear Parents,
The last “In Touch” session with the Senior Leadership Team members held in February was a big success. After the session, we made a commitment to schedule another similar event.
The “In Touch” session is a Parent Coffee event in which parents can choose among a number of table discussion groups. Every 20 minutes, everyone rotates in order to move through to the table discussions of most interest. School leaders facilitate an engaging discussion and take notes on chart paper to document the feedback and suggestions.
We would like to invite you to two sessions:
"In Touch" with our Arabic Team:
Date: November 20th
Time: 1:30pm-2:45pm
Venue: IB Lounge (located on the 2nd floor)
Table Discussions: Arabic language program, UAE Social Studies and Islamic Studies.
*Parents will have an opportunity to meet most of our Arabic team and engage in discussion's about our Arabic department.
"In Touch" with our SLT (Senior Leadership Team and Coordinators):
Date: November 21st
Time: 1:30pm-2:45pm
Venue: IB Lounge (located on the 2nd floor)
Table Discussions: IB Diploma Programme, Secondary Programme, Elementary Programme, Kindergarten, Athletics and Activities and School Services.
We value parent feedback and look forward to sharing ideas for improvement.
Best regards,
Naseera Timm-Holland

GAA Yearbook
You can now preorder the 2016-2017 GAA Yearbook for just 250 AED (68.50 USD) until January 12, 2017! After January 12th, the price will increase to 300 AED (82.00 USD). This year we are ordering yearbooks based on how many people preorder, so make sure to order your book sooner rather than later. To order the 2016-2017 GAA Yearbook, use our Jostens’ online website designed specifically for GAA. Through the online website, you can also add cover customizations for additional fees.
The Yearbook Staff, made up of 11th and 12th grade students, is looking forward to creating the 2016-2017 Yearbook. Their goal is to have a yearbook that captures who they are as a KG1-12th grade student body. They want to design a yearbook that will serve as a time capsule for the 2016-2017 year and be used years to come as a trip down Nostalgia Lane.
This is the first year GAA is using the Jostens’ online platform, Yearbook Avenue, to design the yearbook. The program allows students to design pages, upload and edit photos, communicate to one another and the Jostens’ representative, and market the yearbook all from the one webpage—so anywhere Wi-Fi is available, the students have access to the program. GAA and the Yearbook Staff are very excited about all the possibilities Yearbook Avenue offers and to present the 2016-2017 GAA Yearbook in May 2017.
