News from Head of School - Kathy Miner
Dear Parents,
The foundation of a strong school is built on the continuous dedication and support of our parent community, demonstrated in recent weeks by our many parent volunteers who have helped make events meaningful and fun.
Thank you to our parent volunteers who have helped to make the "Campaign of Kindness" a huge success! What great support in helping to build and foster a bully-free school environment. GAAPA is a huge supporter of our Campaign of Kindness and have accomplished so much to make the week meaningful and successful.
Also, a huge thank you to our parent volunteers who helped to make our second Health & Wellness Summit for Grades 3,4 & 5 a big success and for coordinating a successful and informative Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign!
I’d like to also recognize the support of our Booster Club Parents who are selling healthy snacks at the after school concession stand and supporting our athletics program.
Harvest Festival, October 27
The GEMS American Academy Fall Festival is Thursday, October 27 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. This event is hosted and organized by our GAAPA Parent Association with the help of our many parent volunteers across the school. Be sure to bring the whole family and enjoy seeing friends and making new connections.
Cladding Repair Project Update
Thank you for your continued patience with the ongoing work to replace the decorative cladding tiles that fell in the wind and rainstorm last March.
Work has been ongoing for a number of weeks now and a significant amount of the project has been completed. A number of steps must be completed before the cladding tiles can be installed, such as adding anti corrosive paint (completed), extra structural support (completed), and aluminium framing (top framing almost complete). As top framing is now nearing completion, cladding tiles are now being installed.
Thank you for your patience during the repair project, we all look forward to using the front entrance again. I’ll continue to keep you informed as the project unfolds. We now anticipate that the main entrance will reopen in November.
Regards,
Kathryn Miner

Dear GAA Parents,
It is our pleasure to announce that our Grade 11 IB Diploma Students (Arabic Native Students) have achieved the highest results in EMSA Exam for “Arabic Reading” and “Arabic Writing” for 2015-2016, among all participating students in Abu Dhabi Private Schools.
Last year, our school was chosen by Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) to participate in EMSA standardized assessment; which is an externally developed, scored and reported standardized testing program that evaluates student achievement in Arabic reading and writing Skills for native speakers. In comparison to the results of the participating students in Abu Dhabi, our students received the highest results, as shown in the below report received from ADEC.

Harvest Festival is coming October 27th!
Harvest Festival is an annual event that celebrates the autumn season and the traditional harvest period in many countries. It is organised by room parents and parent volunteers who decorate booths, organise carnival like games and hand out treats to participants. Each booth chooses a theme and this year the themes include Country Pumpkin, Pokemon, American Football, Toy Story, Pajama Party and The Hungry Caterpillar! Booths compete for the ultimate prize of best decorated booth and there are also prizes given for the best costumes.
Last year secondary students from the Prom Committee, the Russia trip and the Key Club also participated!
This event is fun for the whole family. Bring your appetites as shwarma, popcorn, baked goods and drinks will be on sale!
And please donate nut free candy for this event by putting it in the bins that will be in the main and KG lobbies from next Sunday...!

Lost and found
Dear Parents,
We have been at school for a couple of weeks and our “Lost and Found” items are growing rapidly. We have many water bottles, lunch boxes and new school sweaters. Please help us return items to your child by naming all their belongings. If you think your student may have misplaced something please stop by the “Lost and Found” area, which is located by the entrance to the cafeteria. Clothing items not claimed by Thursday October 27th will be donated into the Red Crescent collection box at the rear of the school.
