News from our Elementary Vice Principal, Josh Doubleday
Dear GAA Community,
This week, the staff were spoiled by our wonderful Gems American Academy Parent Association. Thank you to all who participated and gave their time in order to make this week special. All of the teachers are aware how special it is to work with a group like GAAPA and to have this sort of thank you is truly amazing. Thank you.
Another really great thing happening in our Elementary school these days is the work that is being done by our Grade 5 PYP Exhibition groups. We regularly meet with groups of Grade 5 students who are wanting to take action and make a positive difference in our school and our community. This enthusiasm is rubbing off on our other students as we have seen students in grade 2, 3 and 4 wanting to take action for causes they believe such as Nepal Earthquake Relief, and Endangered Animal Awareness. You may see these Grade 5 students around our school, and in the school lobby wanting to take action and wanting to tell you about it. If you see a table or a display set up in the lobby, or a poster somewhere around the school, please stop take a look and see if you can support their initiative.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards,
Josh Doubleday

Dear Elementary Community members,
As you know, GAA has been IB certified this year. So, this year is the first time that Grade 5 will be having a PYP Exhibition. Every group in Grade 5 is expected to take action in GAA, or for our community in Abu Dhabi. My group has decided to transform an appropriate amount of land in GAA into a garden.
We would like to plant some vegetables in our garden. In order to make this happen, we need your help. Please donate your cleaned plastic bottles, and plastic yogurt containers into the huge box that will be placed in the reception. These aren’t the only items that you can place in the container!
If you think something else would be usable to plant vegetables, please bring it for donation.
Thank you for your cooperation,

Hello everybody in the caring GAA community,
Our names are Lavine, Eric, Conner and Alyssa. We are in grade 5 and we are doing the PYP Exhibition Our topic is human rights and this is our action: There are two boxes close to the reception and what we want you to do is to put any clothes that you don't need in those boxes and we will then give it to some of the staff here at GAA whose families could use them. We hope that you donate some of the old clothes for the people that need it. Thank You for donating your clothes that you don't need!

Let’s Keep Moving! KG PE
During PE, we have been using our bodies to create different movements. This has included doing activities such as using our bodies to create different animal movements and various gymnastics movements. We have also been playing many different types of games to teach us how to work together as a team and to also to reinforce the skills that we have been learning in PE. Here is a picture of some children creating movements to represent different animals:

KG1E is having so much fun at school learning to be problem-solvers and creative thinkers. We just completed a Unit of Inquiry – How We Express Ourselves & can do this by playing, talking, painting, dancing, through puppet shows & singing. Most recently we went to see the play the Tiger Comes to Tea at the Abu Dhabi Theatre!
KG 2I,
EA appreciation day!!
Last week, we had an appreciation day for all of the Educational Assistants in our school. We made a lovely card for Ms. Vicky. She loved it. Thank you Ms. Vicky for all that you do ☺
Water experiments
This month we have been exploring materials. Here, we were testing different materials to see which ones were waterproof. We got a little wet but we enjoyed these experiments ☺

*A gentle reminder that for safety and security reasons children are not allowed in the classrooms after school. We appreciate parents assistance with this and thank you for your continuous help and support.
