News from our Secondary Principal Craig Randall
Dear Parents,
Wow, what a morning here in the secondary school. It all began with an American tradition called “Senior Prank”. For those unfamiliar with the tradition, it goes like this:
Our seniors did a great job with the pranks. It was fun and wholesome and we have now started another GAA tradition.
Later in the morning we had our 8th grade promotion ceremony. The ceremony, was highlighted by speeches by our 8th grade speaker, Matt Moye, and our teacher speaker, Mr. Peter Stelzer. It was a memorable morning for our 8th graders as they leave middle school and prepare for high-school. Following the ceremony, the kids enjoyed a dance in the gym with lots of kids “busting a move.” They really enjoyed the pizza, pasta bar, drinks, cupcakes and macaroons.
A big thank you has to go out to Broccolis for donating the pizza and pasta.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday night, our 12th grade drama students concluded their high school drama careers with an outstanding performance of Crazy Town. The play was laugh out loud funny and full of fantastic performances. Well done to the seniors and Mr. Carlin.
On Wednesday night we had our inaugural all secondary school sports banquet at the Crowne Plaza on Yas Island. This robustly attended event highlighted the year in athletics. It is truly amazing that the school has come this far in two years. Special congratulations to our Boy Athlete of the Year Jeremy Clink and our Girl Athlete of the Year Sarah Habash. Also a big thanks to all of our coaches, the booster club and Mr. Mott for all their work during the course of the year.
A reminder once again, here is the senior exam schedule. Exams begin on Sunday.
Wow, what a morning here in the secondary school. It all began with an American tradition called “Senior Prank”. For those unfamiliar with the tradition, it goes like this:
- Seniors come to me with a list of ideas of things they would like to do for their pranks
- approve or deny individual requests. For example, requests to throw water balloons at the younger students are rejected, while on the other hand, requests to make a fort in the IB Lounge are approved.
- The seniors set a day for the event
- The day before the pranks I leave work early so it is a surprise to me. The students and I arrange to have their work setting up the pranks supervised by one of the teachers (Ms. Sciolis).
- We all come to school and marvel at their pranks like moving the photocopier into my office, covering my entire television monitor with post-it notes, lining the hall with balloons, putting funny signs around the building.
- Once everyone has enjoyed the festivities surrounding the prank the seniors clean up their handiwork.
