5th Graders going to Middle School
This week the grade 5s had a chance to sample some grade 6 classes, English and Science. During their English class with Ms. Masters, students met their 6th grade buddy, discussed their letter exchange, and had a fun question/answer session with current 6th graders about what middle school is all about. In the Science lab, students participated in turning a copper penny into gold, competed for collecting food items using different shaped bird beaks, and watched as Hydrogen Peroxide decomposed using a catalyst and turned into a gushing volcanic elephant toothpaste! The 6th grade ambassadors chosen did an excellent job helping to organize and guide the experimental process; way to go Davide, Thinakaran, Emilia, Amir, Virginia, Neil, Paris, and Salama. A big thanks goes to Ms. Maria for helping to run the science experiments smoothly.
Ms. Masters, Ms. Aida, and Ms. Kathy would like to thank the grade 5 teachers for their flexibility in making this work considering it was so soon after PYP exhibition.
We look forward to having the grade 5s be a part of middle school next year and hope that their transition has and will continue to be smooth and enjoyable!

Kindergarten Corner
Through our UOI “Sharing the Planet” the children continue to demonstrate their understanding of what it means to reduce, reuse and recycle. They have certainly shown their creativity in all the different ways they have chosen to reuse every day materials.
In KG1D we decorated plastic water bottles to create our own pot-plant holders. We planted seeds for flowers and a variety of herbs, and are taking responsibility of caring for our plants. It is exciting seeing them grow! We also found pictures on the internet of lanterns created with yarn and balloons. With an abundance of yarn at our disposal, we decided this would be a great way to put it to use. The process was messy and sticky, as we soaked the yarn in glue and wrapped it around and around the balloons. When they were dry, we were able to pop the balloons and were delighted with the outcome! Old magazines and newspapers have been turned in to a game where we use magnifying glasses to search for letters to create our names, words and even small sentences. What fun we can have with simple household objects that would otherwise become trash in a landfill. We are certainly thinking about our responsibilities and trying to make small changes to ensure our planet is a healthy, safe and beautiful place to live.

The KG2 Promotion Ceremony is coming up next week! The KG2H students had a wonderful time with 4 parent volunteers that came in to help with the banners for the ceremony. As the class left the cafeteria to go to recess, they left behind traces of glitter and paint in their little footprints. The moms finished up and seemed to have as much fun as the students did! GAA has a wonderful parent community that encourages many opportunities for positive parent involvement. KG2H could not do it without the wonderful parents in our class. Thank you!
Reminders...
*During the Holy month of Ramadan we will not be celebrating any birthdays in the classroom. If you wish to celebrate your child’s birthday, please communicate with your classroom teacher to arrange a day before June 18th.
*For safety and security reasons children are not allowed in the classrooms after school. We appreciate parents assistance with this and thank you for your continuous help and support.
