News from our Elementary Principal, Ben Voborsky
Hello GAA Community,
It was great to see all of our parents with their children at GAA for Student Led Conferences. Student Led Conferences are so special as we get a glimpse into our child’s educational experience through their eyes. We had a record turnout of students with their parents and I want to say thank you for the engaging participation. Not only for visiting your child’s homeroom teacher but learning about their specialist classes as well. GAA strongly believes in educating the whole child and that it take a “village to raise a child”. Our specialist teachers work very hard to collaborate and integrate with all our Units of Inquiry so we are making strong connections across the curriculum.
Please take the time to complete a quick Student Led Conference Survey.
As you may know, Healthpoint Hospital in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi is sponsoring a Reading Challenge in relation to UAE Reading Year, and they are sending two students to Manchester City to watch the match versus Manchester United and also to have a meet-and-greet with the players. I’m extremely pleased to share that one of our students has been selected as one of the two winners!
Spring break is just around the corner. I wish you a very relaxing holiday with your family.
Enjoy the weekend,

PYP Exhibition Excitement
There was a lot of excitement this week in Grade 5 as the 2nd Annual GAA PYP Exhibition was kicked off. The PYP Exhibition represents a significant event in the life of a PYP school and students, sythesizing the essential elements f the PYP and sharing them with the whole school community. As a culminating experience it is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the IB Learner Profile that have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP.
This year’s PYP Exhibition will take place under the transdisciplinary theme of “How we organize ourslelves” and the central idea is “Communities can be changed through our actions". Students will engage in a collaborative inquiry across all subjects as they identify, investigate and offer solutions to real-life issues or problems.

Book Week
KGCORNER
Hello from KG1G!! We are having so much fun with our plant unit, Book Week, writing stories, and reading great books! We met some new Grade 5 friends who came to be our Book Buddies! KG1G, along with the other KG1 classes also went on a field trip to see "Going on a Bear Hunt". We LOVED going on the bus!! As part of Book Week, we had to decorate our door. We picked the story Walking Through the Jungle! We have been working really hard on our upcoming Community Share where we will sing about planting a bean!
We have been very busy this week at school celebrating Book Week ! KG1E class participated in Reading Buddies with Ms Daniele Keith’s Grade 3 class.
KG Drama and Kitchen Lab
Kg1 and Kg2 Drama
In drama we have been collaborating with the PYP unit ‘Sharing the Planet’ by studying the stories of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and The Great Big Turnip.’
We watched videos of both the stories and read the books. The students had fun taking turns to act them out using masks in our center time. Kg1 colored pictures of The Red Hen and windmills and Kg2 made mini-stick puppets for retelling the Turnip story.
The students learned about how flour is made so that they understood the Red Hen story, and in the kitchen Ms. Erin extended their learning by helping the children make ‘Bread in a Bag!’
KG 1 & 2 Kitchen-Lab
“Who will bake the bread with me?” Ms. Erin asked. “We will!” the children did reply.
Everyone enjoyed making pretzels from our “Bread in a Bag” dough. We learned some interesting facts and practiced kitchen techniques such as:

- Kneading – Means to mix by pressing and stretching with the hands
- Yeast is a living thing
- Yeast eats sugar and makes gas
- Gas from the yeast makes bubbles and holes in bread

Peace been upon you and a mercy of Allah and his blessing.
We have spent a great time with our beloved kids at KG1. They have learnt SOURAT AL-EKHLAS and they realized its meaning. They also learnt that the animals are creatures of Allah on this earth and they have an importance and a lot of benefits for humans. They recognized that they should treat these animals kindly as our Prophet Muhammad did so.
In Kg2 our kids are now able to mention some public utilities and they realized their duties towards these utilities. They became able to differentiate between good and bad behaviors while they use these utilities. The students are able to mention the blessing of Allah on this earth, in the
Sea and the sky, his grace for humans, and they recognize how to be thankful to maintain these blessings.

KG 2 Arabic,
Through play the KG2 students are demonstrating their knowledge of basic Arabic. They enjoyed learning about living and non-living things. Our kg students are very excited about the “Mother’s Day” on 21st March next week, so they are preparing their cards to give to their moms on this special Day.
